A Community Auditorium Built in the 1940s as a "movie house" (one of Many's only two movie theaters for quite some time), the Sabine Theater is one of the few remaining original single-screen theaters in the area. Though only occasionally is a movie shown here, it still maintains its original look, just with all upgraded facilities. This is because the town purchased the aging theater in the mid-1990s and has continually renovated it. In purchasing the theater, the town sought to give the community a multi-purpose municipal auditorium and the project has been a great success as the theater schedule has grown quite crowded. The theater facility is now home to community theater, through the Sabine Parish Players, who produce and present at least four plays a month. The theater is also home to the Ark La Tex Music Show, an areawide talent event. In addition, the theater plays host to rallies, pagaents, religious functions, etc. Since taking over the ownership and operation of the theater, the town has obtained grant monies as well as put city funds into completely revamping the interior of the theater (new seating, expanded stage, new restroom facilities, new air conditioning and heating, new carpet, new paint) and reviving the exterior (renovating the front of the building to its original art deco flavor). The exterior of the theater has become sort of a mascot for the town, with the vintage vertical red lighted marquis announcing SABINE to travellers through downtown Many. The theater is availabe for public use, but again, the schedule has grown crowded so book early. Theater information Click here for Sabine Theater rules and information on booking the theater.
