Streets
Through sales tax revenues, the Town of Many continues to fund a long-term and always ongoing road-building and rebuilding project. Each district council member recommends a road that needs attention in their district, and going evenly district by district, it is these roads that are rebuilt or overlayed as needed.
Streets currently under repair or slated for repairs within the next year include McFarland and Andrews.
Again, this road building program is funded by a one-cent sales tax that city residents passed in several decades ago.
Sidewalks
In 2006, the city launched a massive sidewalk building/rebuilding project which was kicked off with a $100,000 federal grant to rebuild the sidewalks in downtown Many along San Antonio Avenue. The city opted for a brick facade for these sidewalks and the change has really given the downtown area a new look.
Recognizing the benefits provided by good sidewalks throughout town, Many has hired a sidewalk crew and sidewalks all over town will be rebuilt one by one, according to Mayor Ken Freeman.
Drainage
After Hurricane Rita in 2005 and then huge flash floods in 2006, Many obtained financial assistance from FEMA to revamp its drainage system, particularly in light of drainage problems that have resulted from the rerouting of the Hwy. 171 bypass through town. FEMA offered to fund for several months a ditch digging crew in Many, and the town has been getting as many ditches cleaned out and culverts rebuilt or replaced as possible during this period, which will end in Spring 2008. After the FEMA monies dry up, the town will fund on its own the continued drainage project until all ditches, from one end of the town to the other, are completely cleaned out and all culverts that need to be repaired or replaced are taken care of.
