Recreation

Located in west Many adjacent to the Sabine Fairgrounds, the Many City Park features ball fields, a tennis court, picnic tables, playground equipment, walking track, and more.

Sabine Theater

First opened as a "movie house" in the 1940s, the Sabine Theater is now owned and operated by the Town of Many, as a multi-purpose municipal auditorium.

MUSIC SHOW

There will be an Ark La Tex Music Show on Friday, August 27, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at the Sabine Theater. Come out and enjoy some great country and gospel singing.

Sale on the Trail
Built in the 1940s as a "movie house" (one of Many's only two movie theaters for quite some time), the Sabine Theater is one of the few remaining original single-screen theaters in the area. The Sabine Parish Players are having two comedies: 27 Wagon's Full of Cotton and A Phoenix Too Frequent at the Sabine Parish Theater on August 14th at 7pm and August 15th at 2pm.

The Mayor and Aldermen met in regular session December 8,2009,5:00 p.m., at City Hall. Present were Mayor Kenneth A. Freeman and Aldermen I.D. Bostian, John Hoagland, James Kennedy, Jeanetta Dean and Barbara Peterson. Also present were Mickey Sweet, Johnnie Maxie, Bill Brunkhardt, Lewis McBryde, LeeWoods, Donna Ammons, Clint Drew, Agnes Green and Willie Lee Davis.

Jeanetta Dean led prayer and Mayor Freeman led pledge.

Minutes unanimously approved by motion by Bostian, second by Dean.

Amend Agenda: Motion was made by Dean, second by Peterson to amend the agenda by the following: Martin Luther King Jr. March January 18, 2010. Vote: unanimous.

Old Business: Alderman Bostian reported that the striping previously done on Trace Street needed to be restriped.

Approve Bills: Motion by Bostian, second by Kennedy to approve the bills as paid. Vote: unanimous.

Reports:

Financial: All members received copy of current financial statement.

Chief: Chief Freeman approached the board to hire Bonnie Troutman as a dispatcher and over special events. Motion by Hoagland, second by Bostian to approve the hiring of Ms. Troutman. Vote: unanimous.

Tourist: Alderman Peterson reported that there had not been a meeting of the Sabine Parish Tourist Commission.

Sales Tax: Alderman Bostian reported that the sales tax for the Town of Many was down 17.57%.

Airport: Lee Woods reported that the project for the new gate was out to bid. Motion was made by Bostian, second by Peterson to authorize the Mayor to sign the final payment for the airport sealing. Vote: unanimous.

Engineering Report: No report.

Grant Writer Report: Agnes Green reported that the Town had received the grant through LA - DOTD through the Louisiana Transportation Enhancement Program for the refurbishing of the depot.

ORDINANCE #10 of2009 - Motion by Peterson, second by Kennedy to adopt Ordinance #10 of 2009 - Annexation of Brandenburg Property. Vote: unanimous.

Water Rates: The Mayor informed the board that a study on the water rates was being performed by Louisiana Rural Water and the information would be provided to them as soon as completed.

Water Contract: The Mayor informed the board that the contract with the Sabine Parish Water District # 1 would be up in May 2011. We needed to start working on other possible contracts if this one was not renewed to use the additional water.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day March: Motion by Peterson, second by Dean to authorize to issue a parade permit for the Martin Luther King Jr. Day March on January 18, 2010. Vote: unanimous.

Motion to adjourn by Kennedy, second by Peterson. Vote: unanimous.
