St. John's Catholic Church, in central Many
The Town of Many (pronounced “Man-ee”) was founded March 21, 1843, when the Louisiana Legislature passed Act 46, which carved up Natchitoches Parish, creating several new parishes, including Sabine. That Act declared that the seat of government for the newly created Sabine Parish be named “Many”, in honor of Colonel James B. Many, who commanded the garrison at Fort Jesup.

Many is a small southern town, with numerous modern conveniences that are most often enjoyed by a large city, yet retaing qualities of charm and safety found in small towns with smaller populations.  A visit to Many will reveal an array of colorful assets…from its friendly people to its splendid scenery…from its unique architecture to its recreational adventures…and from an enthusiastic spirit of cooperation amongst residents to the progressive nature of its governing authorities.

As President John F. Kennedy once said, “Things don’t just happen, they are made to happen.”  Those words ring true in the history of our local government and its leaders, as its creative efforts and zest for progress are evidenced in continued growth and economic expansion.

The success achieved in the past makes us, as a people, more committed than ever, to ongoing economic development, and to persistence in building on our successful efforts to create new jobs, expansion of existing businesses, and in attracting and encouraging new ones.

We also continue to join hands to help the less fortunate in our community, through many uplifting public and private programs.  Additionally, programs aimed at enhancing quality-of-life for citizens, through comfortable living conditions and quality health-care and access thereof, will continue to be a high priority.  Our community is immensely supportive of cultural and recreational activities, and is diverse in its interests.

The Town of Many, fondly known as “The Heart of Toledo Bend Country” warmly invites and welcomes visitors and newcomers.  Come experience the southern hospitality of its people who are filled with hometown pride, its surrounding natural beauty accompanied by mild climate, and untold amenities.  You may just want to make its PAST and PRESENT a part of YOUR FUTURE!
